The Longest Halloween

Halloween is on a Saturday this year (making it “Halloweekend”) AND it overlaps with the end of daylight saving time. This means you’ll get a bonus hour of spooky. Easy on the candy!

What's Inside

Oct 24: Old Town ALX Urban Outdoors 🍁👁️ 📸

Join DC Day Trips for a unique, outdoorsy walking tour of historic Old Town Alexandria.

The Urban Outdoors: Alexandria is a nature and wildlife destination all its own. We’ll explore the waterfront up to Jones Point and discuss how the natural world and humans intermingled along this river over the centuries. This is a unique way to get acquainted with Alexandria beyond your average history-focused tour.

Old Town: Walking through Old Town’s historic streets beneath the changing leaves makes Alexandria exceptionally beautiful this time of year. 🤩 We’ll have time at the end to explore local shops and eats.

Bring your camera, there will be a lot to capture! This is a metro-accessible (🟡🔵) experience.

Standard Ticket: $20

Twilight Hike and Stargazing Returns in February

This one-of-a-kind DC Day Trip sold out this. Given how popular it was, we’ll bring it back around for 2027!

What you can expect:
Similar style, but adjusted for the winter temperature. Part 1 is an easy-to-moderate late afternoon hike to keep us warm and enjoy the views. Part 2 is when we turn our attention to the stars. NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Ambassadors will give us a quick intro to space, and then the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club will share their telescopes with us to observe the night sky. ✨🪐🔭

The exact date for this trip is still pending, but you can register your interest here before the event is live:

New Winter Trips and Meet-Ups

With the days getting shorter, colder, and holiday-filled, DC Day Trips is going to take a break from November-January. We’ll return in February with a modified schedule for the colder months.

Getting outside of DC in the winter will look different. Think nature walks, food tours, small towns, and quirky destinations you’d never think to explore on your own.

We’re also going to create more opportunities for us to gather in DC as well. After an incredible 10 trips in 2026, we’ve built out a fantastic community. We don’t want to lose touch just because it’s chilly!
