What's Inside
What DC Day Trips is About
DC Day Trips are different
This isn't your typical day trip experience. DC Day Trips is cultivating a community of Washingtonians who want to get outdoors more and don’t want to go it alone.
Every DC Day Trip is designed, curated, and tested by me—Fay, your guide!—before I bring you along. This helps me plan the details that make a day trip feel effortless, and so that things like weather, what snacks to bring, or a closed trail don’t get in our way of having an amazing time.
If you want to spend less time planning and more time connecting with nature and friends, join a trip! All destinations are just outside the Beltway, only 1-3 hours away from DC.
Logistics
What makes a DC Day Trip happen?
I’m rolling out DC Day Trips with a carefully curated set of half- and full-day trips on select Fridays and Saturdays, with a little something for everyone.
But how do we move trips from the group chat into real life? Easy. All you have to do is sign up. Every trip has a minimum number of participants to make the adventure viable. When we hit that minimum number, the trip is on.

Also, finding the optimal group size matters just as much as hitting our minimum. Nobody wants to feel that lost-on-a-school-field-trip feeling. I want to create memorable social experiences outdoor for you, so to focus on that, I’ll be keeping our first few groups below 20 people.
Our Next Day Trip
Hello, Virginia! We’re off to Sky Meadows

Sky Meadows on May 27th
I run a shadow trip of every DC Day Trip before I bring along a full crew.
This “shadow trip” is a dry run of the full itinerary that helps me spot things I may not have noticed while initially planning a trip. Like an interesting stop on the ride over, maybe a place to spot wildlife, or just timing how quickly a cafe can move orders.
Last Wednesday, I found out that Sky Meadows State Park might be even more beautiful with a little mist and rain. Not that I’m trying to jinx this first trip! But who doesn’t like a misty mountain view?
After the hike, the group will head to the nearby town of Millwood for lunch, and then stop at a brewery for brews + views + lawn games before heading home.
Special Events
Get excited for Summer (Fridays)
Summer Fridays are my way of opening DC Day Trips to a wider audience who might not make it to a full day trip. It’s also an opportunity for you to get to know DC Day Trips better if you’re not ready to make the full-day-trip-sized commitment. Also, the sun sets at like 8:30 p.m., so that’s reason enough to be outside! Our first Summer Friday is June 26!
Summer Fridays are a DC tradition of early release from work on a Friday afternoons between Independence Day and Labor Day. DC office culture was obliterated in 2020, but I think it’s time to revive this tradition.
On Friday evenings at 5:30 (just in case you do have to work), DC Day Trips will host mini-excursions to local outdoors destinations that are metro- and bike-accessible. Think bespoke hikes through Rock Creek Park that end with a pack-your-own happy hour picnic, or a bike ride over the Potomac to an outdoor movie screening. It’s just another way to meet up and love the outdoors!
