I <3 October
Even though I had to wear my first sweater of the season 😔, seeing all of Old Town in full fall decor mode makes me feel so cozy. My favorite decorations are all the lumpy—excuse me—“heirloom” pumpkins. What’s yours?
What's Inside
Oct 10: Twilight Hike and Stargazing
A one-of-a-kind DC Day Trip. We leave DC in the late afternoon and drive to one of the area’s International Dark Sky Places—a sanctuary for exceptional starry nights protected against light pollution.

Part 1 is an easy Twilight Hike. That means we’re hiking as the sun begins to sink, but not in the dark. We’ll take in golden hour and fall colors while spotting wildlife in the midst of their “shift change.” 🌅🍂🦌
Part 2 is when we turn our attention to the stars. NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Ambassadors will give us a quick intro to space, and then the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club will share their telescopes with us to observe the night sky. ✨🪐🔭
This trip is currently at capacity, but you can join our wait list in case a spot opens up by Friday. We won’t charge your card without a heads up first and you wouldn’t come off the wait list the day of the trip.
Single Ticket, $74 / (You +1), $128
Oct 24: Old Town ALX Urban Outdoors 🍁👁️ 📸
Join DC Day Trips for a unique, outdoorsy walking tour of historic Old Town Alexandria and Jones Point. Enjoy the fall colors along the river, explore richly historic cobblestone streets, and end with sweet treats!
The Urban Outdoors: Beneath its cutesy exterior, Alexandria is a nature and wildlife destination all its own. We’ll explore the waterfront and Jones Point and see how the natural world and humans collide and coexist. This is a unique way to get acquainted with Alexandria beyond your average history-focused tour.
Old Town: We’ll also walk through Old Town’s historic streets where fall decor and the changing colors of the leaves make Alexandria exceptionally beautiful this time of year. 🤩

Bring your camera, there will be a lot to see! We’ll have time at the end to explore the neighborhood, shops, and local eats.
This is a metro-accessible (🟡🔵) experience.
Standard Ticket: $20
New Winter Trips and Meet-Ups
With the days getting shorter, colder, and holiday-filled, DC Day Trips is going to be pivoting its style for the colder months.
Getting outside of DC will look different. Think nature walks, food tours, small towns, and quirky destinations you’d never think to explore on your own.
We’re also going to create more opportunities for us to gather in DC as well. After an incredible 10 trips in 2026, we’ve built out a fantastic community. We don’t want to lose touch just because it’s chilly outside!
