A delightful day in Sky Meadows

The 2026 season is officially underway. If you missed our first trip, don't worry. There's plenty more coming. Sidenote: I’m pretty new to content creation, but check out my first recap:

What's Inside

Our Next Day Trip

Hiking in Bluemont, VA

Our next hike is Buzzard Hill, an easy-moderate trail on the Appalachian Trail near Bluemont, VA. Bluemont is one of those places that feels genuinely removed from DC but is just an hour away.

Before I bring the crew, I'll run my shadow trip first. The “shadow trip” is a dry run of the full itinerary where I scout the trail, time the stops, and look for those unexpected places that don't show up online. Think of it as me doing the homework so you can just show up and have an excellent adventure. More updates next week!

Special Events

Summer Fridays are free!

Summer Fridays are free outdoor adventures around DC designed to get you outside and find your people.

Our first Summer Friday is June 26. Meet us in Rosslyn at 5:30pm to bike over together along the beautiful Mt. Vernon Trail. If you can’t make 5:30, then just meet us at 6pm at Catboat Pizza (next to the Potomac Yard metro).

Apr. 1973: Bicycling along the Potomac River, Washington, D.C. (John Neubauer / Documerica)

Summer Fridays are a DC tradition of early release from work on a Friday afternoons. DC office culture was obliterated in 2020, but I think it’s time we revive this tradition.

About DC Day Trips

We do day trips differently

This isn't your typical day trip experience. DC Day Trips is cultivating a community of Washingtonians who love the outdoors. We were founded to make the outdoors more accessible to all DC residents (no car? no problem).

Every trip is designed, curated, and personally tested by me, Fay, before I bring you along. That’s how I make each trip feel natural, comfortable, and full of the good kind of surprises—even while you’re meeting some people for the first time.

DC Day Trips is for the person who wants to spend less time planning and more time connecting with nature and friends. All destinations are just 1-3 hours away from DC.
