Good morning!
What's Inside
Sep 19: Hiking Sky Meadows, VA

What to Expect: An easy-to-moderate hike just 1 hour and 15 minutes from DC. Sky Meadows serves up some of the best views of rural Virginia that will put any mind at ease. After, we’ll head a little further west for lunch in a quintessential Virginian small town. The day comes to a relaxing close at a nearby brewery where nodding off under a shady tree is encouraged.

Side note: this is the last Saturday before the Autumn Equinox, so technically our last summer day trip.
Oct 10: Twilight Hike and Stargazing
What to Expect: The first DC Day Trip for night owls. We’ll leave DC in the late afternoon and head toward one of the area’s closest International Dark Sky Places—a sanctuary for exceptional starry nights protected against light pollution.

Part 1: We begin with an easy rolling hike just before sunset to take in the changing autumn colors and spot wildlife in the midst of their “shift change.” 🌅🍂🦌
Part 2: NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Ambassadors will give us a quick intro on space before we turn our gaze upwards. On this evening, the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club (NOVAC) will share their telescopes with the public to observe the planets and constellations. ✨🪐🔭

Oct 24: Old Town ALX Urban Outdoors 🍁👁️ 📸
Urban Outdoors Tour: Beneath its cutesy exterior, Alexandria is a nature and wildlife destination of its own. On this tour, we’ll talk about how humans at first battled, then coexisted, and ultimately began preserving the natural environment along the Potomac. If you’ve never been to Alexandria before, this is a great way to get acquainted with the city beyond your average history tour.
What to Expect: A walking tour of Old Town Alexandria in its most photogenic form. October means fall colors, warm brick walkways, and Halloween decor on every home. Throw in some wooden row houses and you’re basically in a Hallmark movie. We’ll have time toward the end to explore the neighborhood, shops, and grab a bite!

All Tickets - $20
This is a metro-accessible experience. We’ll meet all participants near the King Street Metro (yellow and blue lines) to kick-off our tour.
Canceled 😞: Apple and Pumpkin Picking on Sep 26
Nothing says fall like a trip to the apple orchard, but we’re sad to have to say this year’s day trip will be canceled.
The DC region experienced a spring freeze that hit apple yields hard. With fewer orchards open for picking, we're expecting serious crowds and exceptionally higher prices than 2025. That's not the easygoing, memorable experience DC Day Trips hopes to offer our guests.
Instead, we’ll focus on ensuring the best possible experience for our remaining tours: Hiking Sky Meadows, the Twilight Hike, and Old Town ALX.
